Vivian C. Talbott passed away quietly on August 31, 2020 at 8:48 p.m. She was born to James Covington and Lottie Donoho Covington on September 11, 1934 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She received an early public-school education, but attended Lincoln Institute, an all-Black boarding school in Shelby County Kentucky, and at Central High school in Louisville. KY, for secondary education where she graduated.
Vivian accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at the Forest Tabernacle Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
Vivian married Melvin Talbott on October 15, 1952 in Louisville where they raised two daughters, Paula RoAnn and Shelley Elizabeth. They attended the Green Street Baptist Church. For several years, Vivian did not work outside the home. However, in April 1969, Vivian accepted a secretary/assistant position to the principal for a new elementary school. This school developed a new program that employed teachers from different school districts under an African- American Principal. This was noteworthy for this time of period and geographic area of the county. She developed friendships that have lasted to this day.
The family was relocated to Cincinnati in the summer of 1974 so Melvin could accept a new position at the General Electric plant in Evendale, OH. The family became members of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Glendale, OH. In the new church, Vivian found her true calling to service. She was asked to coordinate the church’s outreach program. She was immensely proud of the work she completed in service for others in this Cincinnati community.
Family was especially important to Vivian. She developed an enviable bond with her six sisters-n-law; The Diamond Girls! Their overall goal was to share in much mischief as they could get into
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, father and mother, six brothers, Almeritt, William, Thurmond, Louis, George, Reynolds, one sister, Charlotte and one great granddaughter, Rosemary. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Paula RoAnn and Shelley Elizabeth, one brother, Larry, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
