Vanessa Ann Smith was born November 20, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the youngest of two daughters born to Romelia Smith and Henry Daffney.
As a kid, Vanessa grew up in Avondale where she attended Cincinnati Public Schools before ultimately graduating from Woodward High School. Shortly after graduating from high school, Vanessa began what would become a 40 year plus career with Veterans Hospital in Food Service. She met many friends there and was always someone that could be trusted and counted on with her colleagues. She retired from VA on December 27, 2018, after 41 years of service.
Vanessa was all about family and she was blessed with three children, James H. Smith, Marion M. Ball, and Nanci Romelia Smith. She loved her children dearly and did any and everything she could for them.
Outside of her love for her family and her dedication to work, Vanessa, in her down time enjoyed bowling, going out to eat with family and friends and shopping. She will forever be known for beautiful smile and gracious spirit.
Vanessa’s favorite color was purple, this color symbolizes “Rarity and Royalty”, these are two words that speak directly to her presence and what she meant to her family, friends, and loved ones.
Vanessa’s love and legacy is cherished by all, and extended through her three children, James, Marion, and Romelia, grandchildren, Jayla Smith, Jayda Brown, Dayreahna Vaughn, Mylasia Hinton, Cartier Hinton, Tyarah Phillips, Taniya Phillips, great grandchild, Dayren Vaughn, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
