How sweet it is at evening after a long and well spent day, to close the eyes in slumber and rest from the toll of the day. It is doubly sweet at the close of a well spent life to turn one’s face toward the sunset and quickly sink into the rest that knows no waking except in the presence of God. Such was the passing of Valure Gibbs on January 16, 2019.
Valure Gibbs was born on March 16, 1931 in Dadeville, Alabama to the late Mosco and Ophelia Oliver. She was one of five children (James, Fred Lee, Nellie and Ethel Lee, all preceded her in death).
Valure moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1939 with her mother and four siblings. Valure attended Lockland Wayne High School, where she met her first husband the late Charles E. Evans Sr. To that union, six children were born, Cynthia, Sharon, Cathy, Charles Jr., Kendall, and Karen (who preceded her in death).
Valure was a member of St. Simon Episcopal Church until she met her second husband the late Reece Gibbs. Where they both were members of the United House of Prayer for All People. She was an active member until Reece death and her felling health.
Valure received her license for Certified Nursing Assistant in 1966. After receiving her license, she went on to work at Green Nursing Home, Brown Nursing Home, and Martin Nursing Home, all located in Lincoln Heights. She also worked as a nursing assistant for Children’s Hospital and Maple Knoll Nursing, where she retired in 1989.
After retiring, her favorite way of passing time was attending Bingo events with her husband Reece. She was very lucky. Years later she spent her days visiting her daughter Karen, and then her husband Reece at the Meadow Nursing Home until their passing.
