Thomas L. Squires, Jr. was born on September 21, 1964 in New Bern, NC to Mildred G. Squires and the late Thomas L. Squires, Sr. His earthly journey ended on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the age of 59 at The Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, OH.
Thomas was a graduate of Pamlico County High School, Bayboro, NC in 1983. Upon graduation he attended what was then Chowan Junior College, Murfreesboro, NC where he earned his Associate’s degree in Printing Technology while also playing football and received JUCO All-American. After receiving his Associate’s degree in 1985 from Chowan, he enrolled at Tennessee Technological University and continued his football career as a junior college transfer majoring in Health and Physical Education. Due to an injury, Thomas missed the first season but played the next two seasons with TTU earning first-team All-OVC and two All American honors. He then signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 1988. After playing professionally he returned to TTU to finish his education, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education in 1990. He was recently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership at Chowan University.
Thomas was a dedicated employee, mentor, and leader in his careers at Purina Mills, Bridgestone / Firestone, Abbott Laboratories, Alkermes, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, Nestle USA, Allergan, and Catalent Pharma Solutions. He was most recently employed by Thermo Fisher Scientific as Regional Area Distribution Manager, CDC Site Leader, Florence, KY.
Thomas became a Master Mason of the Mount Hebron Masonic Lodge No. 42, Prince Hall, Wilson, NC on October 31, 2001. He one-time served the lodge in an appointed position as a Master of Ceremony and was instrumental with direct involvement with the community activity programs.
Thomas was active in the Kings Mills, OH Kings Local Schools community as a board member and a youth football coach for grades 1-6. He was also a football referee for the Franklin, OH youth football league.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 28 years, Angela M. Squires, two sons, Nicholas A. Squires and Devin M. Squires, of Kings Mills, OH; mother, Mildred G. Squires of Oriental, NC; two brothers, Steven R. Squires of New Bern, NC and Michale L. Squires (Deborah) of Colorado Springs, CO; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.
Thomas was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Lillie Squires, maternal grandparents, Hilton and Marinda Greene, father, Thomas L. Squires, Sr., sister, Karen D. Squires, and brother, Brian Sparks.
