Theodore Lewis, affectionately known as “Teddy”, “Ted”, and “Papa”, was born on August 18, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Duncan Charles Lewis and Sallie (Brady) Lewis.
Ted attended Taft High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and then went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Years later, he successfully completed courses at the adult education division of Scarlet Oaks, receiving a certification in Electronics.
Ted was a hard worker. He was hired on at General Electric in 1966 as a Line Inspector. He held many positions within the company and took courses to advance his career. He retired as a Production Assembly Mechanic after 38 years of service.
In 1966, Ted joined Abyssinia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Conley J. Scott Sr. He was baptized and served faithfully for many years. He modeled God’s love to the end, always giving of himself selflessly to support his family and friends.
Ted lived life to the fullest. He loved traveling and took his family on many vacations, Disney World being one of his favorite destinations. He loved sports and did not like being interrupted when watching football, a tennis match, or a basketball game. He enjoyed carpentry work and was the family handyman.
Ted was a phenomenal father and grandfather, who showed up at every church, school, and sporting event with a camera around his neck and a tripod in hand. He was the “Papa” of his grandchildren’s cheer teams, basketball teams, track teams, and soccer teams. He captured and shared memories that will always be cherished by his family and their friends.
He took care of the children and grandchildren that God entrusted to him. Ted also supported his extended family, which included the friends of his children and grandchildren, attending weddings, birthday parties, sporting events, and graduations, with his camera in hand. Ted believed in preserving family history. He served as the president of the Brady Family Reunion committee for many years and loved planning and hosting family reunions. Ted was known to all as a family man!
Theodore departed this earthly life on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, leaving a legacy of family, love, kindness, loyalty, supportiveness, and giving without expecting anything in return. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan Charles and Sallie Lewis; brothers, Moses Walker, Charles Lewis, Donald Lewis, and Carson Lewis; sisters, Patricia Lewis and Gloria Lewis.
Theodore leaves to cherish his memory: children, Calvin Finnerson, Valessia Walker, Donna (Malcolm) Williams, and Raquel Lewis; sisters, Taffie Scarbrough of Jackson, Georgia, Josephine Harris, Jean (William) Mason, Debora Fields, Geraldine Lewis, and Renee Lewis; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, special cousins, relatives, and friends
