On September 12, 1955, a bouncing baby girl named Teretha Eulonda Brown was born to Clara Miller in Warren, Ohio. Teretha was a joy to her mother and grandmother, Charity Brown, who partnered in raising her.
Teretha, her mother, and grandmother moved to Cincinnati, Ohio when Teretha was five years old. Growing up in Cincinnati, Teretha was exposed to and involved in many activities and programs. Her most influential years were accredited to her time at Woodward Junior and Senior High School. Some of the activities she loved most were: learning piano, singing in the school chorus, and running track. Though she was heavily involved in school activities, her strongest involvement included participating in church activities and ministry.
Teretha was saved at a young age and grew up knowing and loving the Lord. She developed her gifts under the leadership of Bishop William Morgan James in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) organization. She was heavily involved in the youth department, often being called upon to sing, teach, and give a word. As an adult, Teretha often taught Sunday School, sang, led the praise and worship team, and helped lead and direct the choir.
In 1973, Teretha attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she majored in Business. Ohio University is where she honed in on key leadership skills and a raw talent in directing. One of her most famed accomplishments while attending Ohio University involved rallying fellow students to form a major youth choir at a local church.
After Teretha’s college years, she returned to Cincinnati where she met the love of her life, Rodney Posey. Playing hard to get, Teretha often boasted that she made it difficult for Rodney to get to know her. However, after four years of dating, they married on September 29, 1979. Their unconditional love continued for 35 years taking seriously the vows “til death do us part”. Rodney and Teretha birthed one child, Trina, whom they loved dearly.
As an adult, Teretha had many jobs to include working in the Treasury Department at Western Southern, a clerk at US Shoe and a teller/manager at Provident Bank. It was not until 1988 that she found her true passion as an Instructor Assistant (IA) for Cincinnati Public Schools. Teretha spent the majority of her IA career at Hartwell Elementary where she cultivated and impacted many students’ lives. Teretha was a staple at Hartwell and was loved by both students and staff.
In 2003, Rodney and Teretha started Impact Worship Center (IWC) where they joined in co-pastoring the church. As IWCs First Lady, she mentored, nurtured, and remained well connected with the members. Her key gifts were prayer and intercession, which she learned from her grandmother Charity as a young girl. She used these gifts to intercede for Impact members on Tuesday nights, lead the altar workers in breakthrough prayers, and taught members how to pray for themselves. She always encouraged her members to operate in excellence while using the gifts and talents God gave them.
Teretha truly impacted many people’s lives throughout her lifetime. Many people often credited her prayers, words of encouragement, loving yet stern correction, and vibrant personality for their decision to push to be their best. Her smile and love were contagious and she exemplified a true woman of strength and character.
Teretha transitioned from this life to her heavenly resting place on November 23, 2014. She is survived by her husband Rodney, mother Clara, daughter Trina, uncle Herbert, and a host of close relatives, friends and church family. Her legacy will continue for many years. She will truly be missed by all who love and cherish her.
