Stanley Gaines was born to the union of Madora and James Sr. on October 8, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He departed this life on Friday, May 22, 2015 at University Hospital after complications with Diabetes. Stanley’s par- ents, Madora and James, his brothers, Samuel and Charles (Babe) and his sister, Loretta all preceded him in death.
Stanley grew up in the West End where he was called “Stan Boy”. He completed his education at Stowe School. In 1949, Stanley met Bernice Leary. They dated for 10 years and married on October 10, 1959 at Beulah Baptist Church. Stanley retired from Cincinnati Children’s Hos- pital after 45 years of service. He worked in the Veterinary Research Medical Department with the Albert B. Sabin team that developed the oral live virus polio vaccine. He was honored with a Retirement Party and a plaque for his many contributions.
Stanley had a love for many things, but the most impor- tant to him were his family and friends, watching the Los Angeles Lakers, the Baltimore Ravens, watching and hear- ing about his grandsons play Baseball and Basketball, and maybe the most fun for Stanley was playing the Ohio Lottery. Stanley was a positive, fun loving, kind hearted Man. He lived his life helping and making sacrifices for those he loved. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Stanley leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Bernice; his son, Michael; his daughter-in-law, Alicia; his grandsons, Michael Jr. and Jordan; one sister, Pearl (Edgar) Bryant; one brother, William (Bernice) Gaines; his brother-in-law, Paul (Deborah) White; cousins, Ruth Weaver and William “Billy” Murray; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
