Shawntaze Lamont Reid, affectionately known as “Shawn” or “Taze,” passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2025, surrounded by love and the care of his mother and under hospice services. He was 53 years old.
Born and raised in Lincoln Heights before settling in Forest Park.
Shawn lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep loyalty, and a love for the simple joys of family, friendship, and craftsmanship.
Though he held many jobs over the years, his true calling was in carpentry-work he took pride in, especially alongside his longtime friend Yosef. He was quick to remind anyone that he wasn’t just a laborer; he was a skilled craftsman.
Shawn found joy in the company of others. Whether playing cards, vibing to old school R&B, or simply talking with friends and family, he brought warmth and laughter to every room. He loved fishing, often saying that being near the water brought him peace. Though not religious, he was deeply spiritual and knew his Bible well-his faith was quiet but steady.
To strangers, he may have seemed reserved, but those who truly knew him understood he could talk for hours, sharing stories, wisdom, and that signature dry wit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents: Artie and Ada Reid, Edward Patton Sr. and Willetta Zellars and youngest brother, Randy Ross. He leaves behind a loving family: his mother Faye Ross (Randy), father Edward “Butch” Patton (Carolyn), sisters Teinisha Lewis, Latona Howard (Charles), Melinda Mansfield, April Carlisle, and Mary Patton; brothers Edward “Butch” Jones and Greg Patton; and his children Ryan Reid, Jayde Reid, Shawn Reid Jr., Amber Reid, and Jamiyah Yhisrael. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren:
Rylan, Bryce, Rian, Riley, and Nova.
Shawn also leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory.
