SAMUEL (SAM) JOHNSON was born in Gary, Indiana, on June 13, 1942, to the late Eugene and Mable Johnson.
Sam attended Froebel Elementary and graduated from Froebel High School in Gary, IN, in 1962. He professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Gary, IN. After graduation, he went to the United States Air Force, receiving an honorable medical discharge in 1963.
Sam married his high school sweetheart Lorraine Joyce Lockett in 1966, and to this union, two children were born. He moved his family to Indianapolis, IN, in 1976, embarking on a successful career in facilities management, where he became the Assistant Director at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). In 1994, he was awarded Outstanding Minority Professional and Businessman Achievement from the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. He relocated to Cincinnati, OH in 1994 and began his career at Cinergy. While at Cinergy, Sam Johnson became the President of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). He retired from Cinergy as a General Manager after 17 years.
Sam loved attending sporting events, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with family. He served on numerous boards, was featured in multiple trade publications, received many recognitions, and addressed groups worldwide on facilities management. His sense of humor and charming personality was loved by so many. He was devoted to the church. He sang in the choir, was part of the audio-visual ministry, served as a trustee, and was an active deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Woodlawn, OH, until his passing.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lorraine Joyce Johnson, children, Michael Johnson (Carolina), Michelle Clarkson, grandchildren – Tiara, Cameron, Emily, great-grandchildren Camden and Cross, nine siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
