Sadie Mae Anderson was born on August 10, 1929, in Wyoming, Ohio.
Sadie’s grandparents were one of the first settlers in Lincoln Heights where she would later reside in a home that her grandfather built.
Sadie was affectionately called “Puddnm” a nickname her mother gave her. She graduated from Blessed Martin De Porres Elementary School in 1943 and then attended Lockland Wayne High School from September 1943-1947. She enrolled in Harlem Hospital School of Nursing, New York, New York from 1953-1956, receiving her diploma in Nursing. After graduation, Sadie earned her Registered Nurse Certification from the state of New York. In 1963, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1968 she earned her Master in Education Degree from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio and in 1978, earned her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Sadie married Major Leroy Anderson in 1966. The union was blessed with one son, Mizani-Leroy. Sadie has one granddaughter, Andre’a, her grandma’s pride and joy.
Sadie worked as a Registered Nurse for 35 years. She held staff, supervisory, and teaching positions at institutions located primarily in the Cincinnati area. She served as a Captain in the United States Army Nurse Corps from 1964-1966. She was assigned to posts in Texas, California, and Vietnam. She practiced as an Adult Nurse Practitioner after receiving certification in 1987, until retirement in 1992.

Lockland Wayne was an enjoyable experience for Sadie. The teachers encouraged everyone to do their best. She was especially fascinated to hear the teachers speak of their college years. Mr. Roan’s description of Hampton Institute convinced Sadie that this was something she had to experience, although the matriculation only lasted one year. Ms. Piersawl was greatly admired by Sadie and was looked upon as a role model.
Sadie leaves behind a son, Mizani-Leroy S. Anderson (Simmy) whom she affectionately called “Big Boy”, one granddaughter, Andre’a Lovell Marie Anderson, whom she affectionately called “Lovely”; three nieces who helped her son with her care, Pamela Simms, Darlene Simms, and Vera Simms; and a host of nieces and nephews.
