Mother Ruth White was born on February 19, 1921 in Lexington, Mississippi, the second of nine children to the late Elizabeth Westbrook and the late Peter Alexander.
Mother Ruth moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1939, and was soon after united in Holy Matrimony to the late Louis White in August of 1940.
In 1941, Mother Ruth joined the Cutter Street Temple Church, whose edifice is now named Rescue Temple Church of God in Christ. Mother Ruth has been a loyal member of Rescue Temple for over 58 years. She firmly believed that the church she attended was where God wanted her to be and stay. Over the years, she has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board Member, Deaconess and President of the Mother’s Board. Mother Ruth’s favorite biblical scripture could be found in Psalms 34:1-3 — “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.”
Mother Ruth mothered many children in her home aside from being a foster parent for over 20 years. She also worked for Human Services as a day care provider for 14 years. Mother Ruth worked at Mel’s Restaurant for 12 years and in a poultry store for five years.
Mother Ruth leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Mildred, Melvin and Jocelyn of Sacramento, CA; five brothers, Peter of Waterloo, IA, the late Willie B., Lee Andrew, John Henry and Robert of Waterloo, IA; two sisters, Margaret of Waterloo, IA and Mary D. of Memphis, TN; six half brothers and seven half sisters; 11 grandchildren, Milton, Myron, Lennita, Lawrence Jr., Ruth, Jaisha, Jamila, Joshua, Jameenya, Javarrah and Steven; several great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
