Rowena Samuels was born April 4. 1945 in Cincinnati, OH. She spent her last week of life full of joy and happiness spreading smiles and jokes to loved ones. She departed peacefully on November 9, 2023 surrounded by her devoted daughter, Rochelle and loving granddaughter, Aleia, both of whom took great care of her as well as other family members.
Rowena attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati, OH, graduating in 1963. Until her health prevailed, she attended monthly luncheons with classmates.
Rowena moved to Dayton, OH where she worked and retired from Delphi General Motors in Moraine, OH. She would often put others before herself. After retiring, she relocated back to Cincinnati to be a caregiver for her mother and two brothers. Her family and friends meant a lot to her. She was beyond proud of her granddaughter’s education. They had an amazing relationship and bond. Aleia was the only person allowed to do her nails.
She was involved in various ministries and held many leadership positions at Dirr Street Methodist Church before if became Marbly UMC. Her final place of worship was York Street Methodist Church where she sang in the Voices of Joy and even helped in the kitchen as needed. She was also active in the United Methodist Women, now United Women of Faith.
Rowena had a caring personality and a kindred spirit that touched everyone she came in contact with. She always greeted people with a smile and was committed to helping anyone however she could with whatever they needed. She showed compassion towards others by being a listening hear when needed.
Rowena was genuine. Her presence alone would warm your heart; always ready to give a hug or say something nice to brighten your day. Her best friend, Candie said it best, she wasn’t a preachy person, but she believed in God and did God’s work.
Rowena was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Lillian Lewis and her two brothers, Melvin and Jerome Lewis.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted daughter, Rochelle Samuels; stepdaughter, Athena Springer; special granddaughter, Aleia Samuels; three sisters-in-law, Gladys (Horace) Harris, Victoria Mincy and Elizabeth (Donald) Davis; three brothers-in-law, Nicholas (Aletha) Morrow, John (Kellie) Thomas and Isaac Williams; special niece, Bernadette Morrow; special family friend, Brent Walker; very special friends, Dwight Battle, Aurelia “Candie” Simmons, Veronica Cromwell and Kathy Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ella Williams of Dayton, OH along with many more devoted friends and family.
