Today we celebrate the life of Richard Lewis Hayes, Sr., who was given to us for such a time. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at HOME in the body, we are absent from the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6). Now, Richard has returned home to his heavenly Father after living a fulfilling 78 years of life.
Richard Lewis Hayes, Sr. was born on November 29, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Raymond Isham and Lillie (Hayes) McCullough. He was also loved by his Stepfather, Ernest McCullough. He had a very close relationship with his mother, never living more than a 15-minute drive away to check on her.
Richard attended Woodward High School and shortly after graduation, he left for the Marine Corp. He served for four years, from June 1963 until June 1967. Upon the return of his tour completion in the Marines, he worked in Private Security. Richard then realized that he wanted to travel and what better way than to work in the transportation industry as a tour bus driver? He drove for Washington Limousine Service, Inc. until the company closed then he transitioned to Silver Coach, dedicating a total of over 20 years of service. After taking some time to himself, Richard decided to return to the work force as an employee with DHL. In his free time, he loved golfing and even more so bowling – where according to him “I am one of the best”. He also loved spending time with his family, taking pictures and cooking.
Richard was preceded in death by: his mother, father, stepfather and siblings Beverly Hayes, Ramona Cooper, Raymond Isham II, Betty Isham, Carol Brown, and Donald Brown. Richard leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Joyce Walker (Anthony), daughter Valeisa R. Jefferson (Clinton) and son Richard L. Hayes, Jr. His grandchildren Brian K. Wiley II, Brandi K. Wiley, Shaquisha R. Harris-Hayes, Zariya R. Hayes, Rikki A. Hayes, and great-grandson Jaxon J. Tyler. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
For I am now ready to be offered, and time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing (2 Timothy 4:6-8).
