Peter E. Knox, 85, passed away at Hospice of Cincinnati on January 19, 2025.
One of two children, he was born September 30, 1939 in Hamilton, Ohio and raised in Oxford, Ohio by the late Francis Theodore Knox and Ruth L. (Johnson) Knox.
Peter is survived by Darla Knox, his wife of 62 years, his sons Jeff (Sharon) Knox of San Marcos, CA, Greg Knox of Los Angeles, CA, and his brother Terry Knox of Solana Beach. CA.
He attended Stewart High School in Oxford where he was very active including playing football. He graduated Miami University in 1961 with a degree in mathematics and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Air Force ROTC. He was a member of Oxford Bethel AME church and served as Sunday School Superintendent. As a teenager he helped manage and operate Knoxy’s Delicatessen, built by his father in the 1940’s- it was one of the few black-owned commercial establishments in Oxford.
He served as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force stationed in Duluth, Minnesota. He and Darla married after her graduation from Miami University in 1963. He left the service and went to work for Univac in Doylestown, PA. At the age of 27 he began a 31 year career at General Electric in Cincinnati. He worked in several data processing divisions at the GE Aircraft Engines Plant in Evendale before moving to corporate offices in Springdale.
He was active in his community volunteering as a Big Brother mentor, math tutor, and Woodlawn City Council board member. He joined Quinn Chapel AME in Glendale 40 years ago and has been a faithful member. He served as a trustee board member, finance and building committees as well as the Men’s Choir. He was an instrumental member of the team assembled to raise funds and oversee design, architecture, development and construction of both phases of the current church building in Forest Park.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the sport with many friends on local courses and annual vacation trips to clubs across the country.
