Sorry for the late posting of this message but after learning of his passing I wanted to share that Paul Gates was a dear friend and I enjoyed the many years of playing tennis with him and all the tennis players at Princeton Park. He trained me and always stressed excellence. Paul was a great teacher and a great man. I shall always remember our fun times and great tennis experiences across the United States.

I admired him for his dedication to education, his ability to build meaningful relationships and his uncanny ability to speak the simply truth. Senor Gates tried to teach me Spanish in 1967 at Meadowdale HS. He was very patient but I was never a prodigy. I now live in southern Texas and still can not speak Spanish except for the few words I learned watching Sesame Street with my daughter.
