Ora Lee O’Neal was called home on April 9, 2026. Born on June 11, 1951, to James McCree and Normal McCowen, Ora’s journey began in the heart of a close-knit family. She was raised from the age of nine by her mother and her stepfather, Robert McCowen. In her early years, she attended Old Front St. Church of God, where she learned the values of service and compassion that would define her life.
A proud member of the Class of 1969, Ora attended Garfield Elementary and graduated from Hughes High School. In 1974, she realized her purpose and began a distinguished career in education at Carll Elementary School. She later moved to North Fairmount Elementary, where she became a favorite teacher to many. Over a career spanning more than 20 years, she received numerous awards and achievements recognizing her “above and beyond” approach to teaching.
Ora was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She will be remembered and missed for the profound impact she made in every chapter of her life.
Preceding Ora in death are her parents, James McCree and Normal McCowen Her sister Marilyn Davis son Jamie O’Neal and Grandson Karell Pritchett Niece Tina Davis and Regina (Jingle).
