Deacon Newland Crutcher, beloved son from the union of Andrew Crutcher and Elizabeth Willis-Crutcher. He was born into the world on November 26, 1939, in Richmond, Kentucky and was the baby of ten children. Newland departed this life to sing in the heavenly choir on January 19, 2024, at 11:47 am., surrounded by loved ones. Growing up as a child, Newland attended Middletown Elementary School, and Madison High School, where he graduated with honors while residing in Richmond, KY and he worked on the family farm.
Newland professed his love for Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member at Peytontown Baptist Church in Richmond, KY. He was also a veteran, having served as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge. Newland relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where he embarked on this journey called life. After moving to Ohio, Newland became a faithful member of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Flinn in 1980 and continued to be a faithful choir member and Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Donald Jones Sr. in 1994 until his failing health.
Newland was joined in Holy Matrimony to Velma Brown Crutcher. He worked for TRU-Wall Concrete Services until he retired. He also sung in the One Hundred Plus African American Men’s Chorus and various groups in Cincinnati.
Newland was an Honorary for the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati. He also was a member of Gothic Lodge #122 and held the highest masonic office as Senior Deacon 32 Degree.
Newland was a very loving and generous man that loved to talk about the goodness of the Lord, give you words of wisdom, and sing a song or two. He will be missed for his beautiful smile, sense of humor, and kind heart. Newland was an exceptional person; loved very much by many.
Preceding him in death are his beloved parents, Andrew Crutcher, and Elizabeth Willis-Crutcher; his seven siblings; his wife, Velma Brown Crutcher; and nieces and nephews.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory; three daughters, Talawanda, Crystal (Jay), and Felicia; one step-son, Conrad Jeffries of Flint, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Zackhary, Quin’nya, Rah’nyia, Fantasia, Kah’ryia, Jaquan, Nah’shyia, Demonte, and Ashley; three great grandchildren, Te’Ari, Jaylin, and A’sean, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; six special grandchildren, Stacey, Rosa, Rose, Christopher, Devin, and Kelli, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; two siblings, Nannie Oliver of Cincinnati, Ohio and George (Martha) Crutcher of Paris, Kentucky; a special niece and nephew, Alice Gibson and Eugene Brooks of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of relatives and friends.
