Nellie Jo (Green) Blackwell, affectionately known as “Nellie,” passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on July 14, 2024, in her beautiful winter home in Phoenix, AZ surrounded by her loving husband and beloved daughter, Kesha. Born on November 25, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the beloved daughter of Raymond Green and Ella (Sanders) Green.
Nellie grew up in Lincoln Heights, Ohio, where she attended school and laid the foundations for a lifetime of achievements. She retired from Avon in Manufacturing Operations after 34 years of stellar service, leaving a legacy of dedication and excellence.
Nellie was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Ella Green. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Paul Blackwell, whom she married on July 17, 1964. Nellie was a cherished mother to her son, Ivan Blackwell, and his wife, Crystal Blackwell, as well as her daughters, Kesha Blackwell and Marissa Sims. She was the proud grandmother of Chase and his wife Ciarra, Kobe, Micah, Meira, and Marley. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Green and his wife Carol. Nellie was loved by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Nellie’s life was marked by her passions and hobbies, which included being a Master Gardener, traveling, shopping, and spending precious time with her family. She was deeply involved in her community, volunteering for the Breast Cancer Society and completing a three-day walk along the coast of California in honor of her mother.
Nellie was a devoted Christian and a follower of Jesus Christ. She attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Lincoln Heights, Ohio. Her vibrant spirit, love for life, and dedication to her family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and beauty, much like the flowers she so dearly loved.
Rest in peace, Nellie. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, and you are loved beyond words.
