Jeary Lean Brown also known as (Geraldine) was born on September 4, 1942, to the late Melvin Turner Sr. (deceased) and Gertrude Turner (deceased) in Birmingham Alabama. She was the third of fourteen children born to Melvin Turner Sr. and Gertrude Davis. She departed this life quietly and went home to her heavenly father on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
Jeary accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Oak Hurst Baptist Church in Birmingham Alabama under the last Reverend William Brown. She was known for promoting gospel groups to showcase their singing on gospel programs. Jeary and her daughters had a gospel singing group called the Brownetts. During her early life, Jeary (Geraldine) was a hairdresser by trade, and she devoted her time and energy as a caregiver for private families. She attended Parker High School where she met and later married Fred D. Brown Jr. on August 23, 1959. Together they were proud parents of three girls and two boys. She loved to sing, listen to gospel music, and had a passion for organizing holiday plays especially during Christmas and Easter involving as many children as she could. Her favorite song she loved to sing was “I know the lord will make away.” She had her own small cast and production.
In 2016 the family relocated back to New Jersey and joined Evergreen Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Guy Campbell Jr., where she was an active member until God called her home. She was also a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Glendale, Ohio under the leadership of the late Rev. Eugene Sebastian (deceased). Upon his passing she became a member under Pastor Kendall A. Logan Pastorship.
Her strong love was her family. Jeary had a special gift for advocating for others when they were in trouble or had a need. As many of you know, she worn many hats and helped others throughout her life. She was the doctor, teacher, lawyer, and preacher spreading and sharing the lord’s word. No event was too big for her to handle, she made you feel very special whatever the occasion was. She enjoyed cooking and feeding others and her specialty was barbeque ribs and chicken. Jeary fed you whether you wanted to eat or not. She had a love and an open heart for all. She puts other first before her own needs that is LOVE. When things got rough, and you didn’t understand how you was going to make it through she would always say “Prayer works and God would work it out”. Her faith was strong in the Lord, she was a praying woman, she trusted and believed in God with all her heart.
Jeary was preceded in death by her husband Fred D. Brown Sr. (deceased). She leaves to cherish her memories her five children; daughters, Angela McCant (James McCant); Wanda Fisher (Michael Fisher); Freddie Brown; sons, Fred D. Brown III (Allyce Brown-Lisa); Jerry Brown (Roxanne Brown). She is survived by her brothers and sisters; Lucindy Lockett (deceased), Anthony Turner (deceased), Melvin Turner Jr., Dorothy Livingston (Nathaniel Livingston-deceased), Annie Davis (Willie Davis-deceased), Beatrice Parnell, (Edgar Parnell-deceased), Velma Waldrop, Brenda Gordon (Michael Gordon), Linda Thomas (Jonathan Thomas), Gertrude Hawkins (Eric Hawkins), Ricky Turner (Annetta Turner), Thelma Green (Lemuel Green), Anne Washington, seventeen (17) grandchildren, thirty-two (32) great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends whose lives she touched.
