Millicent Ellen Beck Simon was born on November 11, 1950 to Milton Beck and Viola Johnson in the steel city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Millicent was affectionately know as “Tillee” by her family and friends, departed from this world on September 14, 2021 at the age of 70.
As a child, Tillee was raised in a loving, close and caring family environment. This loving environment helped to instill characteristics such as compassion, sensitivity, gentleness with a pleasant demeanor. Tillee loved animals, especially cats and would take meat out of the refrigerator just to feed the neighborhood stray cats. One stray cat would lead to many cats and Tillee’s mother would wonder why all of her meat was disappearing. Tillee’s favorite cat Brownie would answer that question and all her stray friends.
Tillee graduated from Wilkinsburg High School, Pittsburg, PA.
As a young woman, Tillee enjoyed singing and was in a singing group performing gigs in Pittsburgh. Tillee loved to read, garden, write, draw and bake with her grandchildren. Tillee was a avid fan of her soap opera’s and would watch The Young and the Restless everyday. Tillee met her best friend, Reginald Earl Simon Jr. during this time and they decided to get married in 1979. From this union, Gordon Alexander Simon was born in 1980. Reginald and his family decided to move to Cincinnati, Ohio to start a new life and adventure.
As a young woman, Tillee worked at Sun Drug Store and Runners Dry Cleaner’s in Wilkinsburg, PA. Upon moving to Cincinnati, Ohio, Tillee worked several odd jobs but focused on the job of mothering her children. In 1988, Tillee began working at Kroger in the salad bar and was a meticulous employee. Tillee loved people and this was shown by the care of her salad bar. Her customers knew when she was at work because the food was fresh and the salad bar was clean. Tillee retired in 2016 and devoted 28 year to serving her customers with care and a smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Beck and Viola Walker; stepfather, Charles ( Chuck) Walker; and her husband, Reginald Earl Simon Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Dawna (Shawn) Beck Dixon, and son Gordon (Erin) Simon; two granddaughters, Meredith, and Alexus; four grandsons, Tayshaun, Reginald III, Gordon Jr, and Santino Anthony; and soon to arrive, one great-granddaughter, Madisyn; brothers, Roland (Charlotte) Beck, Dennis (Sharon) Walker; aunts, Mary Davis and Ida Johnson; brother-in-law, Clifford (Lena) Simon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, September 26, 2021 beginning at 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM at Thompson Hall & Jordan Funeral Home 11400 Winton Road, Forest Park, Ohio 45240. Memorial service will follow beginning at 1:00 PM.
