Michael Anthony Brown, 75, beloved spouse, son, father, and family member entered this world on February 5, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Michael was the quintessential Buckeye man and unapologetic fan of The Cleveland Browns.
Michael Brown was called to his eternal resting place on March 28, 2024. He is preceded in death by his mother Sylvia Brown, father Edward Barksdale, and siblings Norbert, Gayle, Douglas, and Sean. He is survived by his spouse Jacqueline Joiner-Brown; daughter Michelle J. Butler; grandson Langston Joiner; great grandson Elliott James Joiner; siblings Karen Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Janet Brown, Sylvia Brown; and a host of relatives.
Michael Brown graduated from Withrow High School in 1967 and later served two years in the Navy, where he was certified in nuclear weaponry. He graduated with an Associates degree from Cincinnati Technical College and retired from the Cincinnati Health Department after 30 years as a Laboratory Technician. He was well-liked and known to regularly visit his former colleagues throughout his retirement.
In March of 2015, Michael married the love of his life, Jacqueline Joiner, in a memorable ceremony filled with most of Cincinnati and Motown classics. Michael Brown enjoyed the simple aspects of retired life and doted on his favorite “youngster” named Elliott James Joiner. These two partners in crime shared such a heartfelt bond and delighted in teasing each other, giggling, and cuddling whenever they were together. Michael Brown loved all kids, but his great-grandson Elliott held a special place in his heart.
Michael Brown was a lover of all things related to knowledge, where learning represented a life-long quest beyond a classroom setting. He devoured anything related to history, especially African American history. His knowledge of the most obscure trivia facts made him a popular team member on family game nights. He collected owl artwork, perhaps because owls were known for eternal wisdom, inner knowledge, and unique ability to navigate through darkness.
Michael Brown left this earth with some firmly held beliefs. He believed perfectly seasoned beans and cornbread represented food of the GAWDS. He also believed that every man should own a few well-fitted suits and take pride in one’s appearance. Michael enjoyed attending his Ohio IDMR Bible Classes for almost 30 years and held a deep-rooted fellowship with his spiritual family. Special shout out to the many memorable friendships Michael cultivated over the years, especially his loyal to the end friend Ron Lovett.
Health permitting, Michael Brown enjoyed walking and exploring his neighborhood. From time to time, his walks would end enjoying a cold one at a local pub. If you ever find yourself at a local watering hole, pour one in memory of the late, great Michael Brown.
