Mary Agnes Beatty was born on November 13, 1937, to James Sanders and Mary Beatty Sanders of Union, South Carolina. Raised by a caring foster couple during her early years, she was blessed with a loving foundation in life. At the age of 11, her Aunt Bessie Turner, welcomed her into her home, where she continued to nurture and guide her into adulthood. Mother McDaniel attended Oyler Dater Elementary School in Downtown Cincinnati, Woodward Secondary School, and graduated from William Howard Taft High School.
At the age of 11, Mother McDaniel became a member of Rescue Temple Church Of God In Christ, where Bishop Malachi Johnson, Sr., served as pastor. Rescue Temple is also the place where she met a young man named, Curtis McDaniel, who would become the love of her life. They were united in holy matrimony on April 12, 1956, and their loving union was blessed with six children. Throughout their marriage, Mother McDaniel faithfully supported Elder McDaniel in life and ministry, remaining steadfast by his side until the Lord called him home in November 2001.
While at Rescue Temple COGIC, Mother McDaniel was introduced to holiness and the call to righteous living, which set the course for the rest of her life. She learned not only the importance of living for God but also found the tools for developing a relationship with God, such as fasting, prayer, and studying the Bible. Church life became family life for her, and whatever her hands found to do is what she did. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as an usher, cleaned the church, and was a member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee.
At the age of 14, Mother McDaniel developed a passion for helping meet the needs of her church. God gave her the vision to raise funds by preparing and selling Soul Food dinners on the second Sunday of each month. She invited her friend, Mae Johnson, the pastor’s daughter, along with nine other young ladies, to help bring the vision to life. Through God’s abundant blessings, they sold out every time they served meals. Mother McDaniel worked tirelessly and faithfully in the church, serving with a willing heart because she had found a place where she truly belonged.
In 1970, Mother McDaniel developed a deep desire to grow closer to God. After sharing her heart with Elder McDaniel, the two began praying and seeking the Lord’s guidance for a church where they could faithfully worship and raise their family. One night, after hours of restless prayer, the Lord clearly impressed upon her heart that James Temple Church Of God In Christ was where their family belonged. In obedience to God’s direction, the McDaniel family united with James Temple COGIC under the leadership of Bishop William Morgan James, Sr. The transition was made easier by the warm fellowship of members they already knew, including Mother Carrie Simmons, Sister Shirley Quick, and others.
During her years at James Temple COGIC, Mother McDaniel experienced tremendous spiritual growth and maturity. She learned to put her faith into action, to trust and obey the voice of God, and to take every concern to Him in prayer. She also developed a deeper understanding of God’s Word, studying it diligently to gain greater insight into His truth and a clearer understanding of the principles of holy living.
Mother McDaniel’s love for God was reflected in her unwavering commitment to serving His people. She faithfully labored in every area where she was needed, believing that serving the Lord was both a privilege and a calling. Throughout her years of ministry, she served as both a member and president of the Hospitality Committee, was a Licensed Deaconess in the Church Of God In Christ, worked in the Pastor’s Aide Department, assisted with Holy Communion, and faithfully mentored young deaconesses in carrying out these sacred responsibilities with reverence and excellence.
Her service extended beyond the local church. Mother McDaniel served as the Public Relations Coordinator for the Southern Ohio Region of the Ohio North Jurisdiction and Latter Rain Ministries. She also served as a liaison for the Women’s International Convention of the Church Of God In Christ during the 1990 Cincinnati Crusade. In addition, she was selected to serve on the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee, and her home became a place of hospitality, welcoming and housing visiting ministers who came to preach at James Temple.
In 2012, Mother McDaniel became a charter member of Triumph Christian Center Church Of God In Christ, where she remained a faithful member for the rest of her life. Serving alongside her beloved son-in-love, Pastor Jerry D. Herron, she faithfully fulfilled the roles of Church Mother and the church’s original Hospitality Coordinator. She also devoted herself to beautifying and maintaining the church, assisting with event planning, preparing menus and coordinating food service for special occasions, and willingly serving wherever there was a need. Her life was a living testimony of humble service, steadfast faith, and wholehearted devotion to God.
In her professional life, Mother McDaniel faithfully served in a variety of roles that reflected her caring spirit and strong work ethic. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Christ Hospital, Jewish Hospital, and Deaconess Hospital; as an X-Ray Technician at Good Samaritan Hospital; as a Teacher’s Aide at Glendale Elementary School; and as an assembly line associate with AVON Products, Inc. She later fulfilled her dream of becoming an entrepreneur by operating her own in-home daycare, where she devoted many years to providing loving, quality childcare for families with young children. Even after retiring, she continued to share her nurturing heart by assisting her daughter with the children in her in-home daycare.
To know Mother McDaniel was to witness a life devoted to holiness and unconditional love. Above all else, she cherished the Lord and her family. Her patient spirit, gentle nature, unwavering faith, and steadfast commitment assured each of her children that they were deeply loved without condition. She modeled a life of holiness, consistently teaching them to put God first in every aspect of life. She found great joy in seeing them grow into compassionate, caring individuals. One of her greatest pleasures was spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren during holidays, after church on Sundays or on any given day. Her love for humanity extended far beyond her immediate family. She welcomed others into her home and often became a mother figure to those who had no one to depend on. Whether providing a warm meal, a place to stay, companionship during the holidays, or simply a listening ear, Mother McDaniel embraced everyone with the same love and compassion she showed her own family.
On July 11, 2026, Mother McDaniel peacefully entered eternal rest, safely in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
