Mary Lee Montgomery, affectionately called “Mae” was born on February 12, 1930 to Matthew Porter and Janie Dickinson in McWilliams, Alabama. Her mother died when she was two years old and her aunt, Lena Smith (Mama Lena) and uncle, James Smith (Daddy Jean) raised her, along with their 10 children, and she was raised as their sister. She departed this life on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hospice of Blue Ash.
Mae was married to Orvil Montgomery (who preceded her in death) on May 3, 1951. To this union, 11 children were born. Mae loved people and especially her family. She had a great sense of humor and a happy demeanor. She loved garden- ing, animals and she was an excellent cook.
Mae also loved reading and studying her Bible. Her thirst for truth led to her dedicating her life to Jehovah God and she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1970. She loved talking to people about the Bible and telling them about Jehovah God, and she cherished her relationship with Jehovah God and he was her lifeline. Her desire was for all of her family and friends to come to know Jehovah God and serve him. Her example inspired some of her children and grandchildren and some of them followed her example and dedicated their lives to Jehovah God. Mae was the founda- tion for her family and leaves a fine spiritual legacy.
Mae leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory: a special sister/cousin, Margaret Herman of Mobil, Alabama; 11 children, Matthew Porter (Joyce), Orvil Montgomery, Jr., Evelyn Ferguson (Christopher), Gwyn Montgomery, Cynthia Gaines (James), Anthony Montgomery (LaTisha), Antoinette Bouldin (Dennis), Carmelia Montgomery, Vanessa Blanton (Otiz), David Montgomery (Brenda) and Barbara Jean Mont- gomery. She had 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchild- ren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and “special children.”
