Mary Laura Gibson was born on October 2, 1941, to Mammie and Ellison Spiller Sr. She passed away on March 2, 2024.
Laura, one of ten children, grew up in Macon, Mississippi and graduated from high school. She married Robert Lee Gibson and moved to Cincinnati, OH where they raised their 5 children and several nieces and nephews. She retired as a Nursing Aid after 20 years from Drake Hospital.
She gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and continued to attend church throughout her life with New Prospect Baptist Church being her final church home. Laura spent her retirement years enjoying the company of her family and friends. She loved cooking for others, giving fun nicknames to all her family members and watching baseball and wrestling. She was willing to help anyone that needed it and be a listening ear whenever you had a problem. She was never afraid to speak her mind.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Gibson; two sons, Karrie “Buddy Boy” Spiller, and Robert “Mane” Gibson; granddaughter, Teleshia “Mina” Gibson; mother, Mammie; father, Ellison Spiller Sr.; one brother, Jerry Spiller; five sisters “Suta” Spiller, Rosie Lee “Coot” Spiller, Clara Giles, Lauretha Deal, and Marie River.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anna “Tiny” Mitchell (Eric), Angelina Gibson, and Herschel “Jake” Gibson; two brothers, Roosevelt “Bell” Spiller (Gail), Ellison “Bop” Spiller Jr.; one sister, Mae Lee Spiller; beloved friend Lucious Hill (Wendy); eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
