Watch Video TributeMarie Brown was born on March 6, 1924, to John Kennebrew and Carrie Mae Tolbert, in Opelika Alabama. She and her siblings all moved to Cincinnati, Ohio at an early age. Marie had accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended First Baptist Church of Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, Ohio and served as an Usher for many years. Marie was a Sous Chef and cooked at the Alms Hotel where she retired. All who ate her food experienced some of the best tasting home cooked soul food ever made. Aunt Marie loved to cook and read her bible. She loved talking about the Lord and many other subjects. She was full of knowledge and wisdom and knew how to hold interesting, exciting conversations.
Marie, in her younger days, was part of a popular gospel group called the Rose of Sharon. They would go around the country singing at different churches inspiring and lifting people up in the name of Jesus Christ. Marie enjoyed singing and serving the community. She and other members at her church would not miss a year serving the homeless on holidays and special events. Marie supported the WAIF Radio station faithfully with monthly donations. Marie was a generous compassionate woman who believed in helping people who were in need. Aunt Marie did not have biological children, but she consistently helped her brothers and sister with their children so that she became a second mother to all of us. We appreciate all the love and resources that our dear Aunt Marie provided to us as children. Marie was a beautiful Godly woman who brought joy to everyone she met. She could sometimes be sassy but would always seem to make you laugh and smile with her wonderful sense of humor.
Marie married Alphonse Brown (Uncle Tony) on March 31, 1948, married by Rev. Harry Brown. She is now resting in the arms of the Lord along with her dearly departed husband.
Marie loved to be around family and close friends. She deeply loved every one of her family members and enjoyed going to the family reunions and other family gatherings.
Marie left this world to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She is the last surviving member of her siblings: James Tolbert, Anna Lou Tolbert, Arthur Lee and sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Tolbert. Marie will also join her close Cousin Frances who just went to be with the Lord on November 17, 2022.
