Watch Video TributeMarian (Timberlake) McLoyd was born May 23, 1935 (Cincinnati, Ohio) to the late Charles Scott and Louise P. (Green) Timberlake. Marian was the youngest of eleven children. All Marian’s siblings preceded her in death, brothers Preston; Marvin; Luther; Stanford; Paul; and sisters Emmanitia Timberlake; Clara Bell Powers-Bratcher; Fannie Mae Johnson; Blanche Anderson; and Juanita Henry.
Marian was born and reared in the West End. In 1953, she graduated from East Vocational High School. She was very athletic in high school and played softball and ran track.
December 5, 1953, Marian married Joseph McLoyd, Jr. (her soulmate). From this union two precious daughters were born Diane and Karen Louise.
For twelve years Marian was a “stay at home” wife and mother, but on September 14, 1965, (at the age of thirty) she began her career at Kenner Products. One of her first assignments was a general assembler on the Easy Bake Oven line. Also, she worked as a Line Inspector, Supervisor and an Administrative Assistant. Marian worked at Kenner’s Oakley A, Highland buildings, and helped start-up Oakley E and Lockland locations.
She became tired of working and wanted to become a “lady of leisure.” After twenty-three years at Kenner Products, she retired August 2, 1988, but her plans didn’t work out. Marian was recruited by a friend who she worked with at Kenner to work at T-Shirt City. She never heard of T-Shirt City before, but started work August 29, 1988 as an Administrative Assistant, processing employees’ payroll. After eight years and nine months (May 28, 1997) at the age of sixty-two, she retired from T-Shirt City .
On February 13, 1983, Marian professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized at Second Baptist Church of Rossmoyne under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Rosemond.
During her church membership Marian served on the following ministries: Missionary; Ushers; Women’s; and Deaconesses. When the Missionary Ministry had outreach visits to nursing homes, retirement centers and hospitals, she loved to render “Uplifting and Inspirational” readings to the residents and patients. As a Deaconess, she made sure that every first Sunday the gloves and table coverings were laundered for “Holy Communion” service. For many years, Marian served as treasurer for the Missionary and Women’s Ministry.
During her leisure time, Marian enjoyed working in the yard with her husband Joseph. She took pride in edging the grass and they made sure the yard was well-manicured.
The Timberlake’s family traditions of “Playing the Numbers” and having Pokeno/Card parties continued with Marian. She enjoyed family gatherings, shopping (especially with her Sister Blanche), traveling, and occasional trips to the casino. She loved to play Solitaire and Crossword Jam on her tablet. Marian was a generous person and always willing to help those in need. Her “Quick Wit” and jokes would have a person laughing. Someone might think “did she really say that?” She took pleasure in teasing her daughters and nieces (during their adolescent age) about the “Facts of Life.”
Marian was a devoted wife for sixty-seven years to Joseph until the time of his passing and loving mother to daughters Diane and Karen.
During the afternoon of April 19, 2024 Marian, at the age of eighty-eight, peacefully departed this life. She leaves to cherish her fond memories devoted and loving daughters Diane and Karen; nieces Phyllis Bouldin; Teresa Anderson-Jett; Venita Graham; Theresa Lawrence; God Son Amari Bouldin-Smith; friends Claudette Haley; Tony Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Marian carried herself with Class. One of her nephews (Walter) referred to her as “Classy, Sassy, and Badassy.” She will be greatly missed, but those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will see her in Heaven one day.
