Ludie Tatum departed this life after a brief illness on February 13, 2013 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born April 4, 1926 in Guntersville, Alabama to Oliver and Beadie Baker Poe. She was one of nine children.
Ludie moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee with her sister, Odell. Shortly after arriving, they joined Wiley A.M.E. Church and became devoted and active members of the Usher Board until she left the city. She later joined Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, Cincinnati, Ohio where she was a faithful member until passing.
In 1946, Ludie met and fell in love with Judson D. Tatum, Jr. (J.D.) They were united in Holy Matrimony, November 29, 1949 and remained devoted to each other until her death.
In 1950, Ludie and J.D. moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse and was a member of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association for over 35 years. She loved her patients and they loved her.
Ludie was always admired by all for her elegant taste in fashion. In fact, she was a “fashionista” before it became popular.
Ludie loved her family tremendously. In spite of her hectic schedule, she kept in touch with family, remembered birthdays and special celebrations until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Oliver and Beadie Poe; brothers, D.C., Robert Lee, James Oliver and Leroy; sisters, Mattie Bell, Sidney Mae and Odell; and son, Adrian P. Tatum.
Ludie leaves to cherish her memory: husband and love of her life, Judson D. Tatum, Jr.; daughter, Adeline Tatum; sister, Alberta Sloan; granddaughter, Monica Slaughter; grandchild-ren, Ray Slaughter, Jr. and Kristina S. Brown; great-grandson, Dominic K. Brown; daughter-in-law, Barbara Tatum; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other loving family and friends.
