Loronia (Lois) Wilkerson-Morgan was born March 3, 1937 to Leola Wilkerson and father Raymond Ransby in Newnan Georgia. Lois made her heavenly transition on November 29, 2024 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lois grew up in Newnan, GA and was raised by her great-grandmother, Catherine (Maw Cass) Steagall. She grew up with her cousins Willie L, Eddie, Henderson (June), Leroy, Jimmy, C.L., Kenny, Essie Mae, Mary Catherine (Mae), Maude, Elizabeth (Lit), Dorthy (Dot), and Angie Steagall, who were like siblings to her. Over the summers, Lois would travel to spend time with her mom Leola and step-father John Andrew Smith. She eventually moved to Cincinnati during her teenage years. Her very first friend was Annie Starkey. She went on to finish high school at Old Woodward, where she was an avid basketball player.
In 1953, Lois met the love of her life Paul Morgan Jr. On November 15, 1955, Lois and Paul were united in Holy Matrimony. During their 68-year marriage they were blessed with two daughters, Debra and Paulette. Lois and Paul loved each other deeply, and their marriage was an example of what it means to truly live the vows taken on the wedding day.
Lois attended nursing school and became a nurse and continued her nursing career at The Harrison House Nursing Home, where she worked for over 30 years before her retirement. Lois was a loving, compassionate caregiver with a heart of gold, who dedicated her life and career to taking care of others in need. “If I can help someone as I travel along, if I can help someone with a word or a song, if I can help someone from doing wrong, then my living will not be in vain.”
Lois loved attending church. She was a member of the St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, and attending gospel and Broadway Plays. She was the biggest cheerleader for her son-in-law’s softball team, she would cheer the team on and work the concessions at team tournaments. She absolutely loved God’s great creation- nature.
She maintained a beautiful floral garden at her home. Over the years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have all taken part in helping her maintain the garden- whether it was watering flowers, picking weeds, or picking out new flowers in the store to plant in the garden for Mother’s Day. Friends, family, and neighbors who visited would often comment on her lush garden of bright, colorful flowers.
Lois lived with a welcoming heart. She never met a stranger, and she invited everyone into her home. Her nephew Carnell Bozeman, from Columbus, moved in with the family for a couple of years. Her cousin Marzette Davidson lived with the family for four years while he attended the University of Cincinnati. Her nephew Jerry Morgan, from Lanett, Alabama, has lived with the family for over thirty years, and still resides in the home to this day. Lois would have family dinners, Sunday dinners, and holiday meals to bring her family together. Whenever you saw Lois in the kitchen, you knew you were about to have some delicious Southern-style cooking. Lois was well known in the family for many dishes, especially her turkey and dressing, bread pudding, sweet potato pie, and the best mouthwatering German chocolate cake that her family would request multiple times each year. Lois would provide plates for those who couldn’t make it and for her neighbors who were sick and shut in. She always provided what she could for those she loved.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Paul Morgan, mother Leola Smith, step-father John Andrew Smith, father Raymond Ransby, her brothers Raymond Jr., Bob, and Charles Ransby.
