Lila Mae Alexander (nae Smith), affectionately known as “Aunt BeBe”, was born the youngest of three girls on October 27th, 1929 to the late McKinley Smith and Virginia Cooper-Smith.
She departed this life on October 24th, 2020 after God in his infinite wisdom, power, and love withdrew his breath of life.
In 1948, Lila married the “Love of her Life”, Earl Alexander. From this union, two daughters were born, Paula Jean Alexander and Jo Ann Alexander.
As a young woman, Lila joined the Calvary Methodist Church which is now Calvary Hilltop United Methodist Church. She was a faithful member until her health began to decline.
Once her children were of school age, she performed day work for the famous Shillito Family. She also worked for VA Hospital in the housekeeping department until her retirement.
Lila loved to travel, and her favorite destination was Hawaii. In her spare her time, she also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and other games with the seniors at the Kennedy Heights Recreation Center. She especially loved to dine out, her two favorite restaurants being Frisch’s and Longhorn.
Lila cherished family most, and it was shown by her heavy involvement in family events. Whether it was the Kinfolk’s yearly cookout at Mt. Airy Forest, traveling to different states with the Weather’s family reunion, or enjoying the holidays. These were truly special times.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Paula J. Harrison; son-in-law, Joe L. Harrison Sr.; granddaughter, Stephanie A. Taylor; great grandson, Jabari E. Taylor; special cousin, Geraldine Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Lila’s husband, Earl Alexander; two sisters, Odessa Howell and Jean Ann Alexander; daughter, Jo Ann Alexander; and granddaughter, Camille L. Taylor, all preceded her in death.
