Juanita Horton

Juanita Horton was born on September 18, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Selma and Serlessie Williams. She was the second child in the family. Juanita graduated from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was known for her kindness and sense of humor. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing. She attended The Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Juanita dedicated the majority of her career to working as a cardiac nurse at Jewish Hospital. Even after retiring, she remained active in the community as a volunteer and patient advocate at The Drake Center, a sub-acute hospital specializing in caring for individuals with spinal cord injuries and other neurological diseases. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. While she was a beloved member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years, she later found comfort and spiritual nourishment at Inspirational Bible Church when her health prevented her from attending her home parish. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee Horton Jr., and is survived by her six children: Robert Earl Harper Jr., Ernestine Harper-Tillage, Patricia Horton-Jackson, Linda Horton-Hudson, Mary Coleman, and Jeffrey Allen Horton. She is also remembered by her twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
