Joseph Bishop Styles was born on January 1, 1932 in
Eaton, Georgia. Joe is preceded in death by his father,
Oliver Styles, Sr., mother, Amelia Gertrude Copeland,
brother, Oliver Styles, Jr., (Helen) and wife, Marlene Joyce
(Stevenson) Styles. He has one living brother, Roger Styles
(Rose).
Joe was a graduate of Old Woodard High School in 1950.
He worked for the United States Postal Service as a Mail
Handler for 25 years, and also served as a union official as
well. He retired and had a second career with Guardmarks
Security Service for 12 years, retiring once again finally at
the age of 80. Joe was also a member of the Masonic Order
of Eastern Star.
Joe enjoyed his life and loved his family. He was a
prolific pool player, having shot against the likes of
Minnesota Fats. He played in billiard tournaments locally
and nationally. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and
hunting with his son and friends.
In 1993, he gave his life to the Lord. He became a
member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. As a
member, he taught Sunday School and was also involved in
Prison Ministry at the Lebanon Correctional Facility and
the Cincinnati Justice Center. In 2006, he was ordained as a
Deacon. Joe loved the Lord and God’s word. He was eager
to share God’s word and he enjoyed being engaged in all
church activities.
Joe has one son, Marlon J. Styles (Christine) and five
daughters, Yvonne M. Beckham, Alicia D. Tidwell, Venita
M. Young (Terry), Stacy Styles and Joey Conway. He has 12
grandchildren, Vatrina Barksdale (Sarvell), LaMonte Tidwell,
Demond Tidwell, Stephanie Styles, Marlon J. Styles, Jr.
(Libby), Christopher Styles (Liz), John Beckham, Shavonne
Beckham, Felicia Beckham, Marlon L. Styles, Terry Young,
JoAnna Young and Tristan Conway. Joe also has nine greatgrandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild; with a host
of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He leaves behind a
close friend and companion, Cora Sheperd.
