John Myrick Frazier, III, aka Ricky, was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 5, 1957, the first of four children of J. Myrick and Marilyn L. (Adams) Frazier.
John attended the Detroit Public School System through 6th grade; Hall of the Divine Child (a Catholic based Military school in Monroe, Michigan) for 7th and 8th grades; and St. Martin de Pores High School in Detroit, graduating in 1975. He then completed one year of college at Northwood Institute in Midland, Michigan before joining the U.S. Navy in 1976.
John was extremely patriotic; he honored the U.S. flag and was committed to upholding the standards of the U.S. Navy. A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, he served honorably for 20 years and received numerous awards, medals and commendations ending his service career as Petty Officer Storekeeper First Class.
John was born for military life; it just fit his personality; he did everything “by the book,” including his favorite book, the Bible! Ricky had a true passion for the word of God, reading it daily, cover to cover each year and once even 3 times through in one year. John was a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, working in various areas around the church, volunteering and ministering to the people of God.
In 1983, while visiting family in Cincinnati, Ohio, John met Nina D. White at the New Jerusalem Apostolic Temple Church. Nina and John were married in December 1984 and the couple relocated to his station in Charleston, South Carolina. In 1988, Nina and her young son joined John where he was stationed in Orlando, Florida and they remained together until 2007. The two remarried in 2012 in Cocoa Beach, FL. Although they were not together for several years prior to John’s transition, they committed to remaining close friends, which they did, until the end.
The joy of his life was his only child, John Myrick Frazier, IV, better known as “J4” or “JJ.” Ricky and J4 shared a love of football and attending Nascar events. Ricky and his son enjoyed taking road trips and set a goal to drive through every state in the union. Ricky prayed daily for J4 and had high aspirations for him. Ricky has entrusted his son to the Lord and family for their continued wisdom and guidance.
John (Ricky) was preceded in death by his parents J. Myrick and Marilyn Frazier and leaves to cherish his memory, his only son, John Myrick Frazier, IV (and his mother Erica Donaldson); one sister, Elaine Frazier (Terry Wilson); two brothers, Guy Frazier (Kendra), and Marlon Frazier (Ruth); two nieces Adrienne Frazier, and Gielynn S. Frazier; four nephews Andre Frazier (Katie), Aaron Frazier (Lynn), Gregory Frazier, and Daniel Frazier; a host of cousins; special friends Nina D. White, Ron McCall of Valdosta, GA, Rev. Frank Felker of Fort McCoy, FL., and devoted caregiver Ms. Barbara Taylor of Cincinnati, OH.
