John Raymond Hammond was born to the union of Arletta Darden and Bill Hammond on April 1, 1941. Raymond was baptized at an early age at Union Baptist Church on Richmond and Mound in the West End. He sang in the Spirimelodaires and Male Chorus and served on the Trustee Board of Union Baptist Church.
Raymond attended Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Central High School later known as Courter Technical High School. After high school, Raymond served in the United States Army. Upon returning home from the Service, Raymond worked at Streitmann Biscuit Company who later became Keebler’s. He retired from Keebler’s, as a line supervisor, and sold real estate for Gunnell’s Realty.
Raymond married Brenda Boisseau in 1964 and they became a family raising their daughter, Adrienne Victoria McDonald.
Raymond transitioned from life to eternal life on August 3, 2023. Raymond was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanetta Brown; brother, Herman Bragg; sister, Martha Norris, and niece, Renee’ Payne. The name Raymond means (protecting hands). He is remembered by his family as being helpful and always being there.
Raymond is survived by his daughter, Adrienne “Vikki” Pogue (Jerome Dallas), aunt Peggy Burton, sister Pat Powell, nieces Eileen Davis (James), Marla Jones, Lynn Norris Ruffin (Denise), Cheryl New, nephew Bobby Harrison (Christy), grand-daughter Amber Norman (Benny), great-grandchildren- Michael Starks, Jr., Benny Norman, and Alaijah Norman and a host of family and friends.
