Joann lived a long and happy life. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world to be with our Dear Lord on June 26, 2023 at the age of 94.
Joann Davis (Smith) was born November 1, 1928 to Savannah Smith and Joseph Wheeler in Montgomery, Alabama.
Joann found Christ and was baptized at a young age. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Progressive Baptist Church welcomed her prior to joining Beulah Missionary Baptist Church.
Joann’s passion was caring for others as a Private Duty Nurse Aid which she retired from. She was a creative crafter and enjoyed gardening. She was loved for having a sassy spirit, full of wisdom and shared many stories of her life to anyone who would listen.
Joann left a great impression on all those who met her. She took on the name “Mrs. America,” along with that infamous wave given by her grandchildren, which spread like wildfire to the nursing staff At the Bayley Home Services. Everyone who knew JoAnn, knew her love for her favorite blues singer, “B.B. King, I can still hear her say “Now that’s good music”.
Joann was preceded in death by her loving husband John Davis, brother Sunny Barnett, son Glenn Rogers and sister Mary Barnett, as well as former husband Willie Rogers. She left to mourn daughters, Theresa (Rogers) Jones (Carl), Denise (Davis) Woodard (Roy); son, Jimmy Rogers; grandchildren, Glenn Mays, Steven Rogers, Kenyata Packer, Joi Bowling, Barry E. Carter, Shanae L. Allen-Thomas, David D. Allen, Ariel B. Allen, great-niece, Alicia Manley; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
