To the world, he was known as Jah. But to me, his mother, he was my Buddy.
To know Buddy was to love Buddy. His smile could light up any room he walked into, and his personality was one that no one could forget once they had the pleasure of meeting him. He had a way of making an impression on everyone around him.
Buddy had a deep love for the car scene and the lifestyle that came with it. He talked so much about his Camaro and all the upgrades he wanted to have done to it. He also loved his dog, Chop, and made sure to check on him every day.
His love for his family and friends was truly one of a kind. He loved people wholeheartedly, and you could see that love every time you were around him.
Ja’Vae became a member of City Gate Church in late 2025, where he began attending and becoming a part of the church family.
He was an employee of FedEx and also enjoyed working for Walmart and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Ja’Vae had goals for his future. He wanted to earn his CDL and get his own apartment. He had dreams he was working toward, and he was excited about what was ahead of him.
Ja’Vae was a proud graduate of Winton Woods High School, Class of 2025. Although school was challenging for him at times, I knew exactly what would motivate him to stay focused and finish what he started. He promised me he would get it done, and he did—just as he said he would.
And, of course, I held up my end of the promise I made to him. I got him the car he wanted. I will never forget the look on his face when I had it delivered right to his job. He was so excited and happy. That was my Buddy.
Those are the moments I will hold onto forever—the smile, the excitement, the dreams, and the love he had for the people and things that meant the most to him.
To know Buddy was to love Buddy, and he will forever be loved and remembered.
Ja’Vae’s life may have been far too short, but the love he gave, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will continue to live on forever.
Ja’Vae leaves to cherish his loving memory his mother, Sheena Coates (Thomas Coates), and his father, Billy Lattimore Sr.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ra’Vae Thomas; his sister, Sharesse Lattimore; and his grandparents, Robert Thomas and Patricia Canty.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his siblings: Jayzon Thomas, Jay’Anna Thomas, Leon’Tay Lattimore, Billy Lattimore Jr., Deontae Lattimore, Treasure Lattimore, Aisa Graves, Shauntez Lattimore, Avorio Duncan, Domnic Raven, Lakyra Hammons, Lanyah Hammons, Kyana Gatewood, Katherine Gatewood, Kasey Gatewood, Shakira Burge, and Sean Burge.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his grandparents, Mamie and Danny Thomas and Belinda Lattimore.
His surviving aunts include Sharron Sanders (DuShawn Sanders), Shirley Browner, Aquanette Lattimore, and Nada Davis.
His surviving uncles include Demetrius Stanley, Anthony Lattimore, Robert Davis, and Robert Lattimore.

Ja’Vae was also blessed with a God family who was truly his village and played a major and meaningful role in his life. They include Judith Gaines, Danielle Hutchinson, Naryla Hutchinson, Tarilynn Trollinger, Rochelle Cunningham, Valerie Smith, and Tamiko Stone.
He also leaves behind a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly and will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
Among those closest to him were his best friends, Chastin Hall, Darryl Rucker, and Tajee Harding.
Ja’Vae’s life touched so many people, and the love he shared with his family, friends, and village will continue to live on through each of them.
