Mrs. Janice (Lowry) Faulkner was born September 14, 1938, to the union of the late Buster Lowry, Sr. and Mary Smith (Crum) Lowry. The Master called her from labor to reward on Monday, February 10, 2014.
Janice professed Jesus Christ at an early age, uniting at the First Antioch Baptist Church when it was located on Ninth Street, at the age of 12. After moving to the O’Bryonville neighborhood, she joined the Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church in 1956, under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Donald E. Newberry, Sr.
Janice was a member of the Sunday School, a life time member of the Senior Missionary Society. She sang with the Gospel Chorus, the Senior Choir, and the Sanctuary Mass Choir. Janice sang with many other groups, i.e. The Charles Fold Singers, Gospel Messengers, The Willie Hawkins Singers, Phil Jackson Singers, The Cincinnati Coral Union, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Cincinnati Chapter for over 30 years, Kenny Smith Peace and Serenity, and the Lowry Sisters. She also was Captain and Co-captain of The Women’s Day where she was crowned for raising the most money for the Teams. Janice also Co-chaired the Community Calendar for many years. Janice was also a member of the United Federation of Colored Women Clubs, belonging to The Florence Bowman Guild.
Janice attended the Cincinnati Public Schools, and later she attended the East End Adult Education Center receiving her High School Diploma at the age of 61. That was a proud and exciting day for all her family.
She met and married William Taft Faulkner, Sr. who preceded her in death. To this union, eight children were born: Mary Catherine, Amerine Lois Lowry, William Taft, Ruben Alexander, Elliott Patrick, Trent Martin, Janice Carolyn Faulkner and Nancy Lynn Bonner.
Janice entered the work force in 1971 and retired in 1997, giving 26 years of service to the U.S. Treasury Department – IRS. She started out as an Intermittent Employee and indicative of Janice’s
nature to rise up through the ranks to become a Group Manager of the Data Transcriber Team.
She leaves to mourn her passing: eight children, Mary Catherine, and Amerine Lois Lowry, William Taft, Jr. (Yvonne), Ruben Alexander, Elliott Patrick (Angela), Trent Martin (Hope), Janice Carolyn Faulkner and Nancy Lynn Bonner; four sisters, Mary C. Moore, Nancy C. Elmore (Valjean), Fanny L. Early and E. Lynette Ficklin (James); one brother, Robert Lowry, Sr. (Ethel); one son-in-law, Odell Bonner, Jr.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; (two grandsons preceded her death); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
