James Major Green fell asleep in death on July 5th, 2025, at 9:00AM at the age of ninety-two. James was born on December 9, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama to a single mother, Carrie Ford. Carrie Ford and young James left Alabama heading to Chicago to be with family, but when the train had a layover in Cincinnati, Ohio, Carrie decided to stay making Cincinnati their home. James found work in various fields to help his mom and their growing family. He even managed to leave Cincinnati for a while due to work and moved to Hempstead, New York, where he saw just about all the exciting attractions New York had to offer. One of the attractions being Coney Island, which he remembered with fond memories.
James eventually moved back to Cincinnati, where he met and fell in love with Sally H. Scott. On a particular date, he asked Sally if he could come up for some grapes, to which she said “Yes”…. and the rest is history. James and Sally, whom he affectionately called “Coolou”, were married on February 9th, 1958. This past February 2025 would have been their 67th wedding anniversary, but sadly, Sally preceded him in death on August 8th, 2004. Sally told Jim she wanted a house full of kids, and that’s what they had. 10 children:4 girls + 6 boys. However, 3 of their kids have passed away. Charlene Green, Luther Green, & Bernard Green (Debbie). James will be remembered by his only surviving siblings, Rose Jackson, 7 remaining children: James Christopher Green Jr. (Ada), Brenda Tucker (Leon), Leon Green, Laquita Green, Sharon Price, & Derrick Green (Peggy). He also has nieces and nephews: Karen Travis, Daneeda Travis, Carmen Travis, Tammy Briscoe (Little Tommy Briscoe), Donna Briscoe, Johnny Briscoe Ir., Aundrey Travis, & Beverly Briscoe.
