Ishton Winford Morton, was born November 8, 1946, in Gingerland Nevis/ St. Kitts West Indies; to the union of Eugenia and Victor Morton. He was the second of four children.
Ishton married the love of his life, Beverly Jean Bowers on September 9, 1978. Ishton and Beverly shared over 47 years of love until his death. Their union was blessed with a loving son, Ishton Morton II.
Ishton received his Bachelor’s Degree from Marion College in Marion, Indiana. He continued his education at the University of Cincinnati, earning his Master’s Degree in Education.
He was a devoted teacher in the Cincinnati Public Schools and several Chartered Schools until his retirement. Even today his students show gratitude and appreciation for him as a teacher.
Ishton’s love for people included many communities involvement as past President of the NAACP, serving on the Board of Trustee at James Temple COGIC. He was truly respected among the community members and its leaders. After years of retirement, Ishton and Beverly decided to become foster parents to help impact positively on children’s lives with the National Youth Advocate Program.
Ishton had many loves; first and foremost, his love for God, then family, cooking, sewing, music (including playing the piano, guitar, and saxophone), and his passion for growing vegetables and flowers in his garden. He would freely share his vegetables with the family, friends, and neighbors.
Ishton leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife, Beverly Bowers Morton; one son, Ishton Morton II (Desiree); two brothers, Eustace Morton and John Syvester Morton; one sister, Gretel Hamilton; a loving cousin, Cynthia Stout (Melborne); and a host of other relatives and friends. Ishton did not use the title “in-laws”, just family. His brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews were a joy to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugenia and Victor; one brother, Cyril Roper. At the time of his passing, Ishton was surrounded by loving family, on June 24, 2025 at Jewish Kenwood Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
