Gwendolyn Darlene Howard was born to the late union of William (Willie) Cornelious Sr. and Ida Lee Howard. In this blissful, God ordained union, 6 beautiful children were born, Gwendolyn was the third eldest child born on October 15, 1945. Her three brothers, Cornelius Howard Jr., Albert James Howard, and Joseph Lee Howard along with two sisters, Bessie Kathleen Howard, and Robyn Fern Howard Walker, all preceded her in death.
Gwendolyn Darlene Howard left her earthly home on February 7, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She attended Lincoln Height Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln Heights High School in 1964. In 1965 she was wed in Holy Matrimony and from this union four beautiful children were born, Colleen Fern Bessie Howard, Frederica Collette Howard, Joshua Glen Howard (who preceded her in death on July 27, 2012, from cancer), and LeMichael Antione Howard.
Gwendolyn truly loved the Lord. She was a faithful servant of the Lord until the day she left her earthly home. She graduated from Southern Ohio College in 1984 with a degree in Accounting and Business Accounting, while being a loving, wonderful mother, and daughter. Gwendoyln took care of her mother and grandmother who had taken ill. She worked at Kenner and Cincinnati Bell phone Company until 1990.
Gwendolyn took in other children who were not her own. Some from teenagers to young adults and raised the babies by some of those teenagers. She was known as “Momma” and “Grandma” to the neighborhood all while raising her own children. Every child that came to her home, she taught them about God and even brought them to church with her. She taught them how to become excellent in math, reading, and social studies.
Gwendolyn was a beautiful, loving, and caring woman of God. She could pray for you through difficult times and situations.
Gwendolyn became a loving grandmother on January 31, 1990, to a beautiful granddaughter, Nicollette S.A. Howard by her second oldest daughter, Frederica Collette Howard. This was the happiest time for Gwendolyn. She adored her grandchildren whom she also taught about God.
Gwendolyn retired to become a caregiver to her grandchildren. She was truly a wonderful woman of God. She was a bible scholar and sung in Church. She was also funny, beautiful, and had an infectious smile with dimples. Gwendolyn was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She could be quiet and sometimes shy, but she was outgoing at the right time. She was a wise, knowledgeable woman of God who was strict and ruled with an iron hand. She never drank, smoked, or went out unless attending church events. Gwendolyn was a loyal woman and dear friend. If she called you her friend, it was just that, you were her friend. She had lifelong sister friends, Anna Howard Dupree and Roxie Jean Young.
Gwendolyn would be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren, Nicollette S.A. Howard, Christian T. Dowdy, Christopher T. Dowdy. Kolby Tomoye, Jamontae J. Howard, Jordyn M. Howard, and Malachi Lewis; four nieces, Francine Howard Kelly, Leah Walker, Lorrell Howard Thornton, and Ashley Walker; two great nephews, Michael Howard (Tasha) and Mark Howard; five great nieces, Francina Howard Wright (Lamont), Denise Darks, Christina Kelly, Sky Howard, and Shan’ee Kelly; sixteen great- great nieces, nineteen great-great nephews, twelve great-great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends who she will be deeply missed by.
