Frederick F. Moore Jr. passed away on Sunday July 7, 2013 at Atrium Medical Center. Fred was born in Middletown, Ohio, June 25, 1937. He was the oldest son of the late Dorothy (Saunders) and Frederick F. Moore. He was a graduate of Middletown High School. Fred served with the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1962.
He was the first African American member of the Middletown Fire Department serving over 26 years until his retirement in 1998. He also spent over 30 years as a part time employee with Sears at the Towne Mall.
Fred was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Although quiet in his own way, you could always count on him to have a kind word about anything and anyone. He was a member of the Baron’s Social Club and also played on their softball team. He loved to play tennis and was a member of various tennis leagues in southwest Ohio. Fred was also an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Fred and Shirley enjoyed traveling, where they experienced seeing many parts of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, plus the Caribbean, Mexico and parts of Europe.
He was a member of Bethel AME Church in Middletown, Ohio, where he sang in the Men’s Chorus.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy (Moore) Coleman, father Frederick F. Moore and step-father Robert Coleman. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley; two daughters, Michelle Moore of Toledo, Ohio, and Nicole (Michael) Moore-Thompson of McCordsville, Indiana; son, Fred A. (Monique) Moore of Canton, Ohio; brother, James Moore of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; six grandchildren, Josiah, Chandler, Freddy, Michael, Zipporah, and Nyjia; aunt, Cleo Clay; cousins, Sylvester Jackson, Richard Moore, and Luther Childs; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
