Florence Elizabeth Seniours Hughes was born to John and Verda (Birdie) Seniours on April 16, 1924 in Ghent, Kentucky. She was the third of four girls: Dorothy, Margaret, and Johnnie Mae, all of whom preceded her in death. When she was young the family moved to Ohio and settled in Lincoln Heights on Adams Street.
She was joined in marriage to Taylor Hughes and together they raised their only daughter, Josephine. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for most of her life, singing in the choir and serving on the Senior Missions board.
Florence had several jobs, from keeping neighborhood children, working at the toy factory to working on the assembly line at Avon, from which she retired.
Pooh, as she was affectionately called, will be remembered by her family for her many talents and skills among them was crotching, cooking, and her witty sense of humor. Pooh was an uncommon grandmother and great-grandmother, investing as much time as she could into the nurturing and care of her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Josephine Hamilton Wilkinson; special son-in-law James Wilkinson; granddaughter, Aprell Hamilton Taylor (Rohan); grandson, Richard Foster; great- grandsons, Dewann McReynolds, Joel Hamilton, and Will Evan Taylor; great-granddaughter, Danielle Horsely; foster sisters: Cynthia Foster, Patricia Davis and Ethel Nelson; Pooh’s life long friends Willis and Nellie Ellison, Ms. Willa Mae (Kim) Deyampert, Ms. Sarah Jones and Ms. Rosie Dreher; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters, husband, Taylor Hughes; granddaughter, Lisa McReynolds; and best friends, Ms. Mildred McWhorter and Ms. Lucille Bonds.
