Eric Eugene Johnson Jr. was born on May 1, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Northern Kentucky. Eric was born to loving parents, Eric Eugene Johnson Sr. and Darlene Flores.
Eric was an amazing big brother to Rod. Despite a three-year age difference, the boys shared a connection comparable to that of twins. Their bond was something only they could explain, or understand. Very energetic and rambunctious, always playing together. There was never a dull moment. Throughout most of their childhood, they shared a room. Although the boys had separate beds, they never slept apart. Often talking to each other in their sleep. And as they grew, their bond grew, stronger.
Eric recently graduated from Roger Bacon High School. During his time at Roger Bacon, he played football and basketball and created strong bonds and lasting friendships with his classmates. Upon graduating high school, Eric applied and was accepted to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he would continue playing football. Eric’s ambitions of pursuing higher education and playing college football were put on hold, as he grieved the loss of his father and sister. While navigating grief and trying to determine his future, Eric decided, in the interim, to take a position as a cashier at Target, as this was Iyla’s favorite store. He shared, with his closest friends, his dream of moving to California. He wanted to create his own brand and pursue entrepreneurship, a trait passed on to him by his parents. He had one goal, to provide for his family.
Eric is survived by his sister, Dyamond Thurmond; paternal grandparents, Lawrence & Celeste Johnson, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Eric Sr.; mother Darlene Flores; and sister Iyla Johnson.
