Emma Margaret Smith-Stanley was born July 3, 1922 to the union of Virgil James and Jessie Dunn, the last surviving child of 4. She was a World War II veteran and a member of the Air Force. When she left the Air Force, she continued with her nursing career until age and health stopped her from working. She was a member of Mt. Auburn Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Rogers. As a cild growing up she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stanford, Kentucky.
At 98 years old, you live and see a lot. She lived to see the depression, wars, first black president, and a life of highs and lows throughout history.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stanley; her only son, Ernest Raye Smith; her parents, Virgil and Jessie Smith; three siblings, Bill, Tommy, and Annabelle; niece, Jessie Taylor; her grandson, Ernest Raye Jr.; and one great granddaughter, Shakayla Martin.
She leaves to cherish her memories; four granddaughters, Stephanie (Ainsley) Martin, Kimberly Smith, Carla Smith, Shannon (Shawn) Geoff; one daughter-in-law, Carol Smith, 15 great grandchildren, 35 great-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
