Elizabeth (Battle) Peek was born on July 20, 1928, in Crawfordville, Georgia, the first child to bless the union of Leroy and Castella (Stewart) Battle. ?Lizzie? as she was affectionately called by her husband, Howard Peek, joined him in matrimony on March 22, 1947. A son, Gerald Bruce, who preceded them in his heavenly journey, was Lizzie and Howard?s first born. Their second child was a daughter, Pamela Daurice (Campbell).
Elizabeth attended and graduated from Woodward High School. She then earned her nursing degree, using her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) skills and experience to serve and care for the sick at Jewish Hospital for over 35 years.
In obedience to God?s will, Elizabeth was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church and served as an active member there for 71 years. As she walked with Christ, Elizabeth sang in the Inspirational Choir, served on the Lewis Danforth Scholarship Ministry, and was one of the founding members of New Hope?s Birthday and Wedding Anniversary Ministry, honoring special occasions of the congregation. She also participated in the Matrons of New Hope, a church missionary ministry.
Dearest to her heart, however, was Elizabeth?s Wess Park Prayer Group, offering prayers and blessings to everyone and everybody. Elizabeth was a devoted group member for over 18 years. For over 50 years, Elizabeth was also a member of the Buenos El Amigos Federated Club, an affiliate of the National Association of Colored Women?s Club.
With blessings and fond memories, Elizabeth leaves behind her beloved husband Howard Peek, devoted daughter Pamela Daurice (Campbell), son-in-law Roger F. Campbell, Jr., grandson Roger (Rauley) F. Campbell (Candace), granddaughter Camille Daurice Campbell, dear brother Curtis Battle (Janice), faithful sister Alma Christine Giles (George), and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
