Edwin (ED) Cannon was born April 13, 1935, in Indianola, Mississippi. Eddie, as he was known, was the fifth of eleven children born to the late Beatrice Cannon and Sedonia Bell Cannon. Having had a wonderful life with family and friends (many of whom became extended family members) God called Eddie home on Friday July 7, 2023.
Eddie attended Dyer Elementary School, Bloom Junior High School and Woodward High School before joining the United Staes Navy on July 17, 1952. He was assigned to the ship U.S.S. Wasp until his discharge from service on April 16, 1954. During his tenure, Eddie received a number of citations, ribbons and medals; the European Clasp, the Korean Service Ribbon; The Nations Ribbon, and the China Service Metal. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve until July 16, 1960.
Eddie was well rounded, fun loving, honorable and a broad thinking individual whose passions were family, music (any kind of sports. He was an avid bowler and played team softball all over the country during his adult life. He was a devoted family man who cherished his children. Coming from a big family, Eddie developed many lasting friendships over the years and spontaneous gatherings of fun and foolishness was a regular happening. Always a good time!! He will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.
Eddie is preceded in death by his beloved son Edwin Marcus Cannon Jr., his four siblings Henry B Cannon, Lestine Cannon, Leo Cannon and Yvonne Cannon.
He leaves to cherish his memory His Daughter Angela Nicole Cannon Hampton (Ernest), daughter in law Vanessa Cannon, granddaughter Marquitta Cannon Curry (Quincy), grandson Marcus Edwin Cannon, great granddaughters Mckenzie Curry and Keigan Cannon, great grandsons Kyrie and Jahmel Curry; six siblings Josephine Johnson, Valli Mcnear, Eliza Hatcher, Vashti Swan, Sara Jean Brown, and Lavenia Williams (Victor); bonus Daughter Darla Terrell (Preston); as well as many other relatives and friends.
