Edward Thompson, Jr (aka – Juney) departed his earthly existence quietly on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 7:10 pm at Mercy Fairfield Hospital.
Ed was born on December 18, 1935, in Sparta, Georgia to the union of the late Rev. E. D. Thompson and Pinkie Lewis. He was the fourth child of twelve children. He was two years old when his parents moved to Cincinnati, Ohio.
Ed confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his late father, Rev. E.D. Thompson. Ed served as a trustee and Deacon. He also sang with the male chorus. After his health began to fail last year, the church named him Deacon Emeritus of New Life Missionary Baptist Church.
Ed graduated from North College Hill High School in 1953. While in high school, he played football, basketball and ran track. After graduation, he became an employee of the US Postal Service. He worked his way up from clerk to Area Manager – West Region. He retired from the post office in 1992 after 36 years of service. Over the years, Ed enjoyed bowling. He bowled in several leagues where he won several awards and trophies. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards. He also enjoyed fishing with his kids. He spent most of his summers traveling. He enjoyed venturing to different casinos across the country. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Ed was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Doris Hunter, on August 16, 1958. To this union, two children were born Edward Eric and Terri Lynn.
He preceded in death by his parents, Rev. E.D. and Pinkie Thompson four brothers: Nat, Charles, Roy Lee and Curt; three sisters: Willa Mae, Gladys and Ruth; and grandson: Dylan Edward.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Doris; son Eric (Lisa) and daughter Terri (Johnny); five grandchildren: Nola Faulkner, Erica Thompson, Tanisha Willis, Blake Woods and Jordyn Woods; five great grandchildren; brother Stan Thompson, sisters Barbara Irby, Carolyn Allen and Betty Nutt; five sisters-in-law, Shirley Mahone, Irene Ruffin (James), Nancy Hunter, Brenda Thompson and Charlotte Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will truly be missed.
