Edward Lee Welch

Edward Lee Welch, a devoted father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care on August 15, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Almond Samuel and Alice (Blanton) Welch, Edward was the second of seven children. He spent his youth boxing at the downtown Cincinnati Boys & Girls Club, earning his GED before beginning his career at Cincinnati General Hospital. From 1958 to 1960, Edward honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, earning both the Sharpshooter (Rifle) and Marksman (Carbine) badges.

On June 13, 1959, he married his teenage sweetheart, Dorothy Williams. Together, they built a life rooted in love and joy for 36 years until her passing. Edward was a pillar of support for his daughters, Monica and Kelly, rarely missing an activity or milestone. Known for his warmth and sharp sense of humor, he brought quick smiles to family and friends alike.
Following his military service, Edward began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service at age 60. In his retirement, he loved catching up on sports, spending time with loved ones, and actively helping raise his grandchildren.

Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Monica (Gentry); and his brothers, John, Harvell, George, and Michael.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter to be cherished by his daughter Kelly (Andrew) Williams, son-in-law Marvin “Ernie” Gentry Jr., grandchildren Marvin “Tre” III, Monique, and Maleah Gentry, Cameron, Donovan, Sean, and Savannah Williams, as well as his brother Clark (Angela) Welch, sister-in-law Mary Welch, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends.
