Derek Lamont Ragan “Duke” was born on January 30, 1970 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Jerome and Carol Jean Ragan. He departed this life on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the young age of 51.
Duke attended the Cincinnati Public School district and graduated from Taft High School. In his early childhood, Duke found passion in working out and Boxing. While boxing he was able to show his physical strength, awesome footwork, aggressive attacks and fast hands. He incorporated some of his boxing footwork with Dancing, something he enjoyed while listening to a few of his flavorist artist Too Short, Keith Sweat, Lyfe Jennings and Kesha Cole.
Duke was a jokester especially while showcasing his talent “betting against all odds and winning.” He was a proud ‘ladies’ man, the proud father of 19 children. His smile was a great factor in wooing the ladies over along with, creases in his pants but his “Reeboks,” was the icing on the cake. Duke loved some Reeboks, creased Levi jeans and always buttoned his shirt all the way to his neck.
Duke was a giver; he always gave back to the community. Due to his act of kindness, he was nicknamed the Governor. He always found a way to bring light into the community. Most recently during his balloon release he found a way to let his presence be known by lighting up the community with sparks from the balloon.
Duke spent most of his life with Mary Walker (Peaches). Peaches was the love his life, she stood with him through it all, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Duke was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Carol Jean Ragan; brother, Kenny; and sister Paulette.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his children, Latresha, Donisha, Ashley, Shavonna, Shaderek, Dukeisha, Kellis, Derek, Duke, Shawnise, Sheala, Lamont, Devaughn, Devin, Der’rell, Caiden, Dominiqua, Louis and Viniqua all of Cincinnati, Ohio; stepfather, Donald; siblings, Shadarle, Stephanie, Kristen, Gina, Shacona, Tina, Star, Swania and Ravea all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Johnny, Margaret and Chantary all of Texas and Savada of Lexington KY; grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
