Daniel Michel Anderson was born February 23, 1965, the second of two children of David Turpeau Anderson and Marta Camille Anderson Haamid.
Daniel always had a zest for life. As a pre-teen he was selected to appear in several commercials for Steak and Shake restaurants. In 1982 he was elected Boy Mayor of Cincinnati and around the same time he was elected President of the Mid-Western Region of Jack and Jill, a national children’s organization for kids grades 1-12.
In 1983 Daniel graduated from Roger Bacon High School and then attended Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. During his junior year he lived in Paris, France with a French family and as a part of his curriculum he taught English to French students (ESL). He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University followed by a Masters’ degree from Harvard University. He was nearing completion of the requirements for his PhD from Antioch University at the time of his passing.
Daniel lived in Boston, Massachusetts, New York City, and Washington, DC (where he also taught ESL) before returning to Cincinnati in 2007 to begin employment at Cincinnati State as a adjunct faculty member. He became a full time faculty member in 2011 and a tenured professor in 2016. He was made Chair of the History Department in 2021.
Professor Anderson loved history and loved teaching and interacting with his students. He truly exemplified the characteristics of a scholar, educator, and historian.
Daniel had numerous friends and associates. He often spoke fondly of his colleagues at Cincinnati State. He was very close to his good friend Dan, who helped care for him during his illness.
He took special care of his mother by, among other things, making sure she always had flowers in her car.
Daniel leaves to cherish his memory, his father David Turpeau Anderson; mother Marta Camille Anderson Haamid; his brother David Malcolm Anderson (Regina); his uncles Michel (Leslie), Jimmy (Karyn), and Rodney (Cheryl); his nieces Rachel, Erika, Elina, and Marcilena; nephews Liam and Micah; and a host of cousins.
