Creola Marie Perkins-Hillman was born on August 14, 1933, in Safford, Alabama. She was the second oldest of six daughters to the late Sandy Perkins and Elizabeth Merchant Perkins. Creola was affectionately known as “Babe” by her sisters while growing up in Bessemer, Alabama. She graduated early from high school, and moved to Cincinnati, OH. She later married Willie Hillman and to this union five children were raised.
Creola confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, teaching her children how to pray and attend church regularly. She served on a variety of ministries (Greeter, Women’s Ministry, and Missionary) at Greater New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Donald E. Jones, Pastor.
Creola worked for Christ Hospital for 30 years in a variety of positions but retired as a Unit Manager. Creola was a passionate seamstress and creator of beautiful garments. She designed and made attire for any occasion such as weddings (entire bridal parties), prom, graduation, class reunions, church anniversaries, etc, not only for her clients but for herself as well. She also did alterations for people she never met, by simply advising to put a pin where alterations were needed. Sewing was her happy place as she would stay up until the early morning hours to complete a project.
Creola was preceded in death by her husband Willie Hillman, sons: Michael and Derrick Hillman, grandsons Michael Williams and Demetrius Jones and two sisters Margaret Dean and Katie Williams.
Creola cherished her family more than anything! She leaves to cherish in her memory; her children Cynthia Hillman Armstrong, Willie Christopher Hillman (Melissa), Carolyn Williams (Michael), Grandchildren: Kevin, LaChrisha, Ricky, LaBaron, Tonya, Shivonna, Keisha, DeMarco, Kenya, David, her sisters: Liz Simon, Jesse Mae Morgan (Houston), Geneva Ross and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
